Robert Wrath-of-Sherman, Restitutor Americanis

January 14, 2844 CE

Under the thin morning light streaming down from the patched glass of the Capitol’s great dome, the crowd thrummed with audible excitement.

Despite the biting winter chill, close to a hundred of the greatest lords of the Americanist realm, constituting the Electoral College, were in attendance. They were braving, too, Thrax’s red scythe, which continued to ravage the land. But all in attendance knew that this was a momentous, once-in-an-era occasion, not to be missed.

Today, the American Phoenix rises, and they would be the ones to raise It.

The crowd fell silent as Robert II strode onto the raised dais and sat on the ornate throne, every bit the triumphal sovereign. If the general was still weak from the red sickness that had so recently afflicted him, he showed no sign of it.

He nodded to the waiting officiant, a signal to begin. The Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Virginia started reciting his lines in his reedy voice.

“This man, Robert of House Stewart of Washington, General of the Commonwealth of Virginia, being thirty-five years of age and of sound mind, seeks the Presidency of the United States of America. What say you?”

“Aye! Aye!” came the response from the Electoral College.

“This man, Robert of House Stewart of Washington, President of the United States of America and General of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks the leadership of the Commonwealth of Columbia. What say you?”

“Aye! Aye!” came the response again.

“This man, Robert of House Stewart of Washington, President of the United States of America and General of the Commonwealths of Virginia and Columbia, seeks the leadership of the Commonwealth of Carolina. What say you?”

“Aye! Aye!” And so it went, for Deitscherei, and Jersey, and Gotham too, the crowd getting more and more excited with every repetition.

“This man, Robert of House Stewart of Washington, President of the United States of America and General of the Commonwealths of Virginia, and Columbia, and Carolina and Deitscherei, and Jersey, and Gotham, seeks-” the Attorney General’s voice falters briefly, quavering with excitement. “-seeks the leadership of the Empire of America. What say you?”

A pregnant pause fell then across the assembly, even though this had all been carefully choreographed. There it was. The ruby corn.

Robert sprung to his feet from his throne. “My lords!” he boomed out in his impressive voice. “What say you?”

The room exploded. “AYE! AYE! AYE! AYE!” cried the lords and ladies of the Electoral College, raising their hands in spontaneous salute.

Robert breathed in deep as the adulation washed over him, savoring his apotheosis. The entire history of his house had been leading up to this moment. Caleb the Usurper, who evicted President Ironwrit from Washington and took over custodianship of the Capitol. Simon, the Cleansing Flame, who burned the Deitsch king in his high castle. Robert’s own namesake, his grandfather Robert Black-Stag who slew Havelock the Terrible in single combat and seven times shattered the Redcoat hosts in the deep woods of New England. Robert's father William, who drove the Confederacy to the banks of the Mississippi. And of course, Robert’s own stalwart defense of the Americanist way against the Great Papist Crusade, that laid the groundwork for his coronation today.

No matter what happened next, he knew, he had secured a place in the histories. But Robert was only getting started.

De jure map mode.

Note: this is an after-action report for a campaign in the After the End mod for Crusader Kings II.

Started as Joseph Stewart, Major of Baltimore.

I'd just beaten back a massive Catholic crusade, giving me a bunch of cash (thanks mr pope) and turned 35 on this exact day, so I restored the presidency, created a bunch of kingdom titles, created the empire title, then did the Restore America decision, all at once. Oh I also vassalized the Men in Black at the same time as well, but couldn't work it into the text.

Goddamn, this was a fun campaign. Love the mod. Love the Americanists.
